Sea Turtle Conservancy (STC) is hoping all of its supporters will participate in this year’s Giving Tuesday Campaign, which occurs the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (December 2 this year), is one day when everyone can join together to make a huge difference! Your gift will translate directly into sea turtles being saved on the beach in Panama.

Overall, both leatherback and hawksbill nesting numbers in the Bocas del Toro Region of Panama have been encouraging—showing that STC’s sustained efforts are working.  The increase in leatherback nesting may be evidence that the first generation of hatchlings born at Soropta after the launch of conservation efforts on this beach are finally reaching adulthood and returning to nest.

While STC celebrates increases in turtle nesting in Panama, we are alarmed about increases in the rate of illegal egg harvesting. STC is working hard to curtail this illegal activity so our years of conservation work are not undone. STC’s hatchery at Soropta was an option of last resort and will only be used to see the threat of poaching reduced to a manageable level. STC also provides housing and meals to all visiting park guards so we can help them maintain a visible presence on the beach. In order to continue these conservation efforts, we need our supporters to step up this Giving Tuesday.
